Country Depot Workshop (Apr 6, 2005)Boniferro Mill Works is proud to be supporting the local Soup Kitchen. We are growing fresh produce for the kitchen and possibly some herbs. Since our collective knowledge of gardening is somewhat varied and our gardening experiences are underpinned from different growing zones, we decided that we needed some expert advice.
Our staff and some neighbours in the Third Line/Peoples Road area got to gether to hear Anna Cavalieri's Workshop on the Do's and Don'ts of Gardening here in the North. We were excited to be able to get a glimpse of Anna's vast knowledge of gardening. She shared with us some of her first hand successes and many tips to save us money and work along the way of our gardening journey.
Luckily, for us we had a surprise visit from Suzanne Hanna of the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society. She was kind enough to give us an impromtu primer on growing potatoes in a rolled up snow fence. She also encouraged us all to join the society for social and learning opportunities.
At this point our community garden is still in the conceptual stage. As soon as it warms up our Gardening Crew will get down to business, that is building boxes, hauling dirt and planting.
Thank you to all staff, neigbours Terry, Diane, Cory and Mitch and a special thank you to our summer student Kyle for coming out to support the cause!
Anna supplied us with coffee to go with our "snackies". Door prize draws were won by:
Heather MacKay
Mitch LaFramboise
and Katherine Wegner.
